Frequently Asked Questions & Tips

When is the best time to visit the Disneyland® Resort?

Selecting the “best” time to visit the Disneyland® Resort depends upon your interests.

If you want to visit when the number of Guests is fairly low, plan to stay mid-week (Tuesdays-Thursdays) during:

  • mid-September through mid- November

  • mid-January through mid-March

  • or mid-April through mid-May

The benefit of visiting the Resort when number of Guests is low is that wait times are shorter and you can do more. However, Disney's California Adventure™ park and Disneyland® park typically reduce their operating hours. Also, there may be fewer entertainment and events, and attractions are more frequently closed for refurbishment.

If you want to visit while the Park has extended hours, entertainment, events and most attractions operating, plan your stay for weekends, including extended holiday weekends during:

  • Christmas and Spring Break

  • or June-August

However, during these times, the number of Guests is usually increased.

For a complete list of hours, entertainment, events and refurbishments, contact Anderson Travel!

How can my family enjoy a visit with the Disney Characters?

The Disney Characters are scattered throughout the Disneyland® Resort during your stay.

  • For information on where they will be, visit any information center at either of the Theme Parks.

  • For information on dining experiences with the Characters, please go to the What To Do menu and select Character Dining.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? Shorts and comfortable sneakers or walking shoes are a must! The entire area is extremely casual, day and night, so men will need a jacket and tie in only a handful of restaurants if you are planning a night on the town, all other restaurants are casual attire. For sightseeing and theme-park visits, pack shorts, sundresses, cotton slacks or jeans, T-shirts. Rather than a purse, we recommend a hip pack to hold things such as your camera, sunscreen, hotel card - keys, money, park maps, rain ponchos, and any other items you require. If you wear sunglasses it is a good idea to have a neck strap for them so they don't fall off during some rides.

What are the advantages of staying at an "onsite Disney resort"?
When you stay at selected Disney Resorts, you're special! You can enter the Parks early. As a Guest at a Disney Resort hotel on selected days, you may visit selected attractions at Disney Theme Parks 90 minutes before they open to everyone else!!

Enjoy convenient transportation. Your parking is free too with a valid resort ID!

You can enjoy a nice midday break.
Your staying so close to the Parks, you can return to your resort for a quick nap, lunch or a swim, then go to the Parks refreshed and ready for more fun.

Do you have pet accommodations? There is a Day Kennel. The cost is $15.00 per pet, per day. Reservations are not necessary. Sorry, but no overnight accommodations are available. Please note the Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort do not permit pets.

If I buy something while I'm at a Theme Park, do I have to carry it around all day?

The Disneyland® Resort offers a Package Check Service. If you are staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort, you may have your purchases sent directly to the Hotel. If you are just here for the day or are staying at a local hotel, you may check your purchases until you leave at:

  • Greetings from California in Disney's California Adventure™ park, or

  • the Newsstand at Disneyland® park

Where do I park when traveling to the Disneyland® Resort?

Here are the parking areas for:

  • Theme Parks: Day parking is available in the Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.

  • Downtown Disney® District: Hourly parking is available in our Downtown Disney® District Parking Lot located between the Downtown Disney® District and the Disneyland® Hotel.

  • The Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort: Each Hotel provides its own parking area.

Now that you have two Theme Parks, how many days should I plan to spend to see everything?

Plan about two days for each Theme Park and one or two nights for Downtown Disney® District. Make a list of Favorites that you want to do and see.

Can I visit both Theme Parks in one day?

One-day Tickets are only valid for one Theme Park, but you can “hop” from one Park to the other in the same day if:

  • You purchase a Multi-Day Park Hopper® Ticket (also part of our Vacation Packages)

  • You are an Annual Passholder, or

  • You are a Hotels of the Disneyland® Resort Guest with an Ultimate Park Hopper® Ticket

What do I pack when I come to visit the Disneyland® Resort?

In Southern California, you can dress according to the seasons:

  • During the summer months, pack light clothing, shorts, bathing suits, sunscreen and a light jacket.

  • During the winter months, be prepared to dress in layers. Pack jeans and t-shirts or long-sleeved shirts for the day time, and a sweatshirt and heavy jacket for early mornings and evenings.

  • Come prepared for the unexpected. Pack an umbrella and the appropriate clothing in case the weather suddenly turns wet or unseasonably warm or cool.
